A NUN WITH A DIFFERENCE...

...is the title of a book about Sister Mary Alban, a remarkable woman who was headmistress of a school in the North East of England, and then one in Surrey, in the 1920s and 30s, before travelling to India, where she ran a school at Panchgani, and  founded St Joseph's College, Karachi, in newly-independent Pakistan.

Her fascinating story is told partly through the wonderful letters sent home to her brothers and sisters and their children. A woman of Victorian England, she was a great Christian, an idealist, a true patriot, and a lover of books and of learning, with a great deal to teach the educationalists of today.

If you are a former pupil of St Philomena's in Carshalton, you will want to buy this book! You can do so by sending a cheque (made out to H. Lowe) for £10.99p  to:
Sun Hill Publishing
11 Sun Hill
Cowes Isle of Wight PO31 7HY.

And we also want to hear from any readers of the book, and from former pupils with memories of Sister Mary Alban, or of any of the schools and colleges with which she was involved. Come and join in the discussion!
